Our Language Other than English Department serves our students as they build their skills in multiple modalities (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in languages that are new to them.
WORLD LANGUAGE
At McKee High School, our students need to take one year of a language other than English. The courses offered during Freshman year are Spanish Level 1 and Italian Level 1. These courses are developed to allow students to learn about the Spanish or Italian language, culture, traditions while developing communication skills.
English Language Learners:
Many of our students are English Language learners with various proficiency levels in the English language. At Ralph R. McKee High School, we provide instruction for all of our English language learners with the support of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certified educators who support them as they transition to proficient English speakers. We have students who are members of the ENL Advisory Board whose voices give us input as to how we can support all of our language learners while also creating a welcoming and affirming environment.
